Music is such a big part of our everyday lives. Whether your one for shakin' your ass or ballin' your eyes out, it can have such a huge impact on people and really shape themselves and their lives.

I LOVE music, I'm obsessed, I listen to it everyday without a doubt, and is that person that will stay up 'till midnight if one of my fave artists is about to release a new record. I'm also that person that will check the 'New Music Friday' playlist (every Friday, never forgetting) on Spotify and see what new tunes I can find.

So that's why I'm going to start a new monthly series where I pick my fave singles and/or albums of the previous month, and well, share them with you alllll.

Firstly, who remembers Fleur East and her ABSOLUTE TUNE 'Sax'?!

Course you do! (if not, where have you been)

Even though it was released just over 3 years ago, it is still popular today. Such a classic.

Anyway, she's back! 4th Jan was the day of Fleur's comeback after her stint in the jungle, and I can safely say, she exploded back onto the scene with 'Favourite Thing'.

With African influences throughout and the classic 'Fleur' sound, this really is a proper feel good anthem, and one that should be played endlessly on the radio and be in everyone's playlists. Seriously, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Next up, a collab that I have been DYING to listen to since those pictures were released a couple of months ago. The absolute dream of a voice, Sam Smith, and 1/5 of one of the biggest girl bands of the 21st century, Normani. 'Dancing With A Stranger' was released on 11th Jan, and definitely took me by surprise.

First off, it's less than 3 mins, bit bitter, not going to lie. Other than that, it is a certified BOP. It's proper classic Sam Smith vibes, and Normani adds that little bit of extra sass, and complements Sam's voice PERFECTLY. This is a collab that we needed in our lives, and now it's here, I think we're all satisfied.

"thank u, next, thank u, next, thank u, next, i'm so f****** grateful for my ex" is the line that has been playing over in our heads for a good 2 months now, and has still not left yet (I'm not complaining), but we can't deny that we were pretty surprised when the song was released, or at least I was, 'Sweetener' had only just been released and she's already starting the AG5 era??! And she has not been shying away from the bops since. Just over a month after 'thank u, next', came 'imagine', and now we have '7 rings', which in all honesty is one of my fave songs right now.

Throughout the song, she samples the famous 'My Favourite Things' song from 'The Sound of Music', which to some people was a bit irritating that she took the melody from 'My Favourite Things', but personally I don't have a problem and think that it's genius that she wrote a completely new song from one of the most famous ones, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Ariana is currently in the running to win the 'International Female' award at the BRITs later this month, so will she win? I'm secretly hoping so.

Mabel is probably one of the best breakout artists of the last couple of years. From her massive hits 'Finders Keepers' and 'Fine Line' to collaborating with Jax Jones and RAYE, she's had one hell of a ride, and is far from stopping. On the 18th Jan she released a new single titled 'Don't Call Me Up' and I am OBSESSED.

As well as Ariana, Mabel is also a BRIT nominee this year, nominated in the category for 'British Breakthrough', her first EVER BRIT nomination. She's up against the likes of Jorja Smith, Tom Walker and Ella Mai. Who will win, I really can't call it. Obviously I'd be ecstatic if Mabel won, because she really deserves it, and I'm not gonna lie, I did have a little squeal of excitement watching 'The BRITs Are Coming' last month and her name coming up. No shame. Go Mabel.

Last, but by no means least, my final fave for this month is Rudimental's new album 'Toast To Our Differences'.

This whole album is seriously incredible, but I want to focus on one song in particular, '1by1' featuring RAYE and Maleek Berry. It is an absolute TUNE! I heard a snippet of the song a few weeks ago as both Rudimental and RAYE put it on their Insta stories, and from the 10 second clip, I was instantly obsessed. If I'm honest, I woke up last Friday and completely forgot about their album, until I checked 'New Music Friday' on Spotify (obviously) and found the song, what a way to start a Friday eh?! '1by1' completely lived up to my expectations and I really recommend you give the song and the album a try, you don't know until you've tried...

And there we have it, my fave songs/albums of January 2019! January was such a good month for music, from Ariana Grande to Sam Smith, this month really treated us.

Can we just appreciate, it is ONE WEEK until Ariana Grande's new album 'thank u, next' is out. I am SO EXCITED. So make sure you're here for my faves of February, where I will 100% be including her album, coming on the first Friday in March!

See you then...
