If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I've always struggled with my skin, and finding products that genuinely work. I've pretty much tried every type of product under the sun. Some have been pretty good, some have been pretty s***.

I'd been using the same face wash for a while, scared to try something different in case it completely ruined my skin. However, I wanted to try another brand of charcoal cleanser, as I'd previously tried one from L'Oreal Men, which didn't really work for me. After that, I was kind of put off, but after hearing about Biore everywhere, I felt like I needed to jump on this bandwagon.

Background of the Brand

If you're not familiar with them, they're the #1 cleansing brand in Japan, and #1 pore strip brand in the UK (which I'm yet to try out). So they're not doing too bad. From their words, they are a pore-focused face care brand that continues the mission to make high quality, affordable skincare products that provide a variety of skincare benefits.

They have a huge range of products, for all different wants and needs. From cleansers, to pore strips, masks, and even soap. They pretty much cover every area of skincare. With their Japanese roots, their aim is to improve and innovate in everything they do, with a no-nonsense approach to fight smarter, not harder.

What The Product Offers

It's the first thing we inspect when on the look out for a new product. In this case, they claim that it draws out 2x more dirt and impurities than a basic cleanser, and if I'm honest, that instantly sold me. Something that will genuinely get rid of the dirt and deep clean my face.

Infused with Japanese skin purifying technology, this will give you results after just one use, a big claim for a product these days. I'm always that person that whenever a product claims to 'work after just one use', after using it once, I'll stand and stare at myself in the mirror, and see if it's actually benefited me. Most of the time, it doesn't actually work, they can claim it works after one use, but everyone's skin is different, and may take a while to kick in.

Oil free, contains natural charcoal, and is dermatologist tested. What more could you ask for? For me, the 'oil free' claim is a massive positive. I predominantly have combination skin, but when it's oily, it's very oily, so I need something that won't add to it, but can also keep it under control.

The Actual Product

When it comes to actually using the product, you never want something uncomfortable, unpleasant, and that doesn't actually work, something I was pretty apprehensive about when wanting to try this. A lot of products I've tested out in the past have either been too drying, had exfoliates in that ripped my skin, or didn't have the best smell. So Biore had to impress me.

I'll tell you what, they did. For a charcoal cleanser, I always feel like it'd be quite uncomfortable on your skin, or potentially have a gritty feeling, this certainly doesn't. The texture is smooth and gentle on your skin, isn't uncomfortable, and surprisingly has a pleasant fragrance to it. As for the application, a little does go a long way, put about 1-2 generous pumps in your hand, lather into a white foam, then go wild. Simple and easy to use.

The one problem I kept having with charcoal washes/cleansers, is that they would always make my skin feel tight and uncomfortable. I don't know if I was doing something wrong, or the product just wasn't the one for me. In light of this, I can safely say that this product doesn't make your skin feel tight and dry. I'd say it does ever so slightly, just because this is a charcoal product, so it will be taking away some oil, but it certainly isn't uncomfortable.

It makes my skin feel clean, fresh, and ready for the day. On the spot front, I'll honestly say that it didn't work wonders for my skin. It has helped with the odd spot now and again, and kept them at bay, but when it comes to clearing all my skin, and looking like the advert, it just didn't live up to that.

A percentage of that problem will be on my part, because my skin has never really been clear, and whenever spots go and I think I'm finally clear, they'll all pop up again, so my skin is just very temperamental. However, all in all it's probably up there with some of the best washes/cleansers I've tried.

Would I Recommend It?

I'd say, if you have really bad acne, and spots is something you constantly suffer with, no I wouldn't recommend using this. Just because I don't feel like you'll really benefit from it massively, and it won't help you tons with your spots. On the other hand, like I always say, everyone's skin is different, and may work for some and not others.

If you have normal teen skin, and a few spots every now and then, oily in places, yes I'd 100% say give this a try. It does the job very well, leaves your skin clean and fresh, and will help get rid of the build up of dirt.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this product has really surprised me, and worked a lot better than I was expecting. For the money, I think it's definitely worth trying out, and without a doubt, I'll be buying and testing out more of Biore's products!

  3. I don’t have teenage skin in terms of age (I’m 40) but I still suffer from the teenage problems that I used to have. It took me a long time to finally find a skincare routine that really worked. It’s so great when you find something that works with your skin type, etc. Ive never used this product but it may be one I add to my routine as it sounds fairly decent!
