STRAIGHT INTO ADULTHOOD

Three days ago I turned 18, which can mean only one thing...

I've officially entered adulthood.

Any second now I'm gonna feel the weight of responsibilities tap me on the shoulder and leap onto my back having a right 'ol laugh.

Speaking of responsibilities, they certainly will be coming my way soon. In a couple of months I'm moving out to go to uni (blog posts will be coming), so that means money managing, cooking (help) and having to actually look after myself. So give it a couple of months and I'll be feeling like a fully grown adult with their s*** together...hopefully.

Without getting too soppy, I feel like over the last couple of years I've done a lot of 'growing up'. I've experienced the responsibility of having a job and earning my own money, and at the end of last year took the major life decision of going to uni, and even though it wasn't really my intention from the start, the choice now feels like the right one. Well, we'll soon find out. I'm genuinely looking forward to becoming more independent within myself, and doing simple things like a food shop (is that weird?). Although I am intrigued to see how I'll actually cope with normal adult things, I feel like I should film my own reality show..

What's funny is that as I'm writing this, my friend had sent me a video of a meal we had 2 years ago after finishing GCSEs, and we're saying to each other how so much has changed in that amount of time, and it's true. Looking back at myself 2 years ago is like looking at a different person. Let's just say within that time people have come and gone, and that some of my fashion choices weren't the best back then...

This is probably a normal thing to happen, but I do feel quite emotional about the whole situation, because it's like a whole part of your life is over and now the whole world is behind a door and I'm willingly about to step through it. Yet I do feel quite exhilarated that life is basically about to start, and what a journey it'll be.

Lastly, I just want to say that over the last year and a half of blogging on and off, all the love on my posts has been so amazing, not that I'm any PointlessBlog (far from) but it's nice to see that people enjoy what my brain decides to dump. And if you're new here, hello! Welcome! I'm aiming to get new posts up every week, so follow me on Twitter and Instagram (@jareddavies02) to see when I do!

Thank you all again! Here's to becoming 18, and being an adult...

  2. Congratulations on reaching adulthood - it's all a breeze from here! No but in all seriousness, so many people are thrust into adulthood at different ages but so much changes legally when you're 18! There's so much pressure on young people nowadays both emotionally and financially but I hope uni is an amazing experience for you!

  4. Happy birthday fellow July baby! Welcome to adulthood. Brace yourself cos it's gonna be one rollercoaster ride. Fun and scary at the same time. :) Oh and as for fashion, I know what you mean there! I guess we all go through that phase where we when we're older look back at our past, younger selves and wonder "What was I thinking wearing that?" Haha. Guess it's part of finding who we are too as a person.

  6. Happy 18th! I love shopping for my own food - there’s something quite exciting about being able to buy what I want and play around with food ideas (would defo recommend meal planning and writing a list though - it’s so easy to buy unnecessary crap and forget about vegetables). Best of luck with uni - I’m sure you’ll love it! As for adulting, there are definite ups and downs to it but it is what you make of it x
